Head coach Stacey Jones has named a 23 man Kiwis squad for the Rugby League World Cup, captained by James Fisher-Harris of the Warriors, according to the New Zealand Rugby League. Kalyn Ponga, Dane Gagai, Jacob Laban and Tanner Stowers-Smith could all make their Kiwis debuts. Ponga's inclusion is the headline, since he is one of the most exciting players in the NRL

The squad also includes Jahrome Hughes of Melbourne, Joseph Tapine of Canberra and a strong Penrith group of Isaiah Papali'i, Moses Leota, Scott Sorensen and Casey McLean. Cronulla supply Briton Nikora and Ronaldo Mulitalo, and the Dolphins provide Jamayne Isaako, Kodi Nikorima and Jeremy Marshall-King. The Warriors trio of Erin Clark, Te Maire Martin and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad are also included, along with Keano Kini, Leo Thompson, Naufahu Whyte and Xavier Willison

New Zealand open their campaign against Australia on Thursday 15 October at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. They then face the Cook Islands in Christchurch on 25 October and Fiji on the Gold Coast on 31 October. The final is at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on 15 November. Jones said: "We're very excited for this World Cup campaign" and "I'm confident in this squad"
