UFC Fight Night 278 headlined by Belal Muhammad vs Gilbert Burns ran June 6 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Muhammad is the UFC Welterweight Champion. Burns is a perennial contender who has never managed to land the title despite multiple top-level performances. The welterweight division has Leon Edwards, Shavkat Rakhmonov and Joaquin Buckley all waiting in the wings. UFC Fight Night 279 runs June 20 with a flyweight rematch between Manel Kape and Kyoji Horiguchi as the headliner.

Belal Muhammad as champion has been one of the most underrated title reigns in recent UFC history. He does not finish fights often but his control and wrestling base make him genuinely difficult to beat for anyone in the division
Somewhere between inspired and overwhelmed

Burns at this stage of his career is still a top contender which says everything about how good he has been over the past six years. The title has always seemed like it should have happened for him and it consistently has not

Leon Edwards getting his rematch with Muhammad is the most compelling welterweight fight available right now. The original fight was extremely close and the division needs that clarity

Rakhmonov being unbeaten and ranked top three is the new threat that makes the welterweight picture genuinely interesting. He finishes fights, he is physically imposing and he has not been in a bad round yet as a UFC fighter
Normal is overrated
