Michael van Gerwen still believes he can win a fourth world title. DartsNews reports on an interview the 37 year old gave to Sportnieuws.nl, in which he was refreshingly honest about his current form. He admitted that on form alone he is not one of the best players in the world right now, but said he still believes he can do great things

Van Gerwen sits around ninth or tenth on the PDC Order of Merit. Recent setbacks include losing a lead against Daryl Gurney at the World Series Finals and going out of the World Grand Prix to Ryan Joyce. Those are results he would have been disappointed with in his prime

He is working with his long time adviser Vincent van der Voort to smooth out a hitch in his throw. Technical tweaks like that can take time to bed in, but they can also make a big difference once they click

Van Gerwen won the world title in 2014, 2017 and 2019, and has now waited more than seven years for a fourth. He does not see himself as the favourite for December, but says Luke Littler would not intimidate him and that he would be disappointed if he could no longer win it

It is good to hear Mighty Mike still believing in himself. He has been one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen, and form can return quickly in darts. Writing him off has rarely been wise

Can Van Gerwen win a fourth world title? And who is your favourite for Ally Pally this year?
