Mercedes has made its upgrade decision for the United States Grand Prix. PlanetF1's Henry Valantine reports that team principal Toto Wolff confirmed both George Russell and Kimi Antonelli will run the latest upgrade in Austin

That is a change from Singapore, where Russell went back to the old specification because he was not convinced it was faster. Wolff explained that the update needs a different approach to the car's set up and is not yet giving the performance the team hoped for. He still described it as a step in the right direction

Wolff said that Austin gives Mercedes an opportunity to respond after difficult weekends in Malaysia and Singapore. Red Bull has been strong recently, with Max Verstappen winning twice, so Mercedes will want to reassert itself

The stakes are huge for Antonelli. As we discussed, he has his first chance to clinch the 2026 title in Austin. A lead of 125 points after the race would make him the youngest world champion in history

Running the same specification on both cars also avoids any suggestion of favouritism, which Wolff was keen to dismiss recently. Austin's high speed sections should be a good test of whether the upgrade works. It is a big weekend for Mercedes

Will the upgrade help Mercedes bounce back in Austin? And will Antonelli clinch the title this weekend?
