Michael Carrick's future at Manchester United is now under formal review. The Irish News, carrying PA's report, says chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox were at Carrington on Monday morning to discuss the manager's position

Talks began after Sunday's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth. No decision had been announced at the time of the report, and Carrick himself arrived at the training ground as usual

Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in January and led United to third place, earning a two year contract. Since then, though, results have collapsed. United have won only two of their last 12 games in all competitions, are eight games without a win, and have just seven points from eight league matches, their worst start since 1986

Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have been mentioned as possible replacements. Fans have chanted Carrick's name while directing their anger at the Glazers, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Ineos and Wilcox. Bruno Fernandes was also at Carrington for planned treatment, a week after Lisandro Martinez was fined for criticising the club's hierarchy

United's next three games are tough, with a trip to Chelsea followed by home matches against Roma and Aston Villa. Whatever the board decides, the decision needs to come quickly. Changing manager again would mean yet another reset for a club that has had far too many

Should United stick with Carrick or make a change? And would Howe or Nagelsmann be the better choice?
