Manchester United lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night, extending their winless run to five games. Football365 reports that the most notable moment came after the match, when Lisandro Martinez publicly questioned the club's recruitment

There were positives in the performance. Michael Carrick made five changes, and United played better than in recent matches. But Leny Yoro was controversially sent off, Bryan Mbeumo missed two good chances, and Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes also wasted openings

Speaking to Amazon Prime, Martinez said technical director Jason Wilcox's summer recruitment had not built on a strong 2025 window. He said he expects more investment and more from Wilcox. It is rare for a senior player to be so direct about the club's hierarchy

Martinez also backed Carrick, saying the club should not keep changing managers and should look at other areas instead. Sir Jim Ratcliffe watched the match alongside the chief executive. Pundits have pointed to the lack of a second striker and of cover for Luke Shaw at left back as clear gaps in the squad

Martinez's comments show how much the players want to see the club move forward. Supporting the manager while asking for better recruitment is a fair position. United have the quality to turn things around, but they need to start converting their chances

Was Martinez right to speak out publicly? And what do United need most to end their winless run?

I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)
