Lewis Hamilton finished sixth in Singapore while his Ferrari team mate Charles Leclerc took second, and he has taken full responsibility for the result. PlanetF1 reports that Hamilton felt unwell after the race, and the FIA allowed him to skip his media duties. Instead, he released a statement through Ferrari

His strategy was different from the leaders. Polesitter Max Verstappen and Leclerc started on soft tyres, while Hamilton started on mediums. He was the first of the leading trio to pit for softs, which turned out to degrade less than expected. Then he missed the pit entry under Virtual Safety Car conditions and had to stay out to the finish

That left him exposed in the closing laps. Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri all passed him, costing him three places. It was a frustrating end to a race where a podium had looked possible

In his statement, Hamilton said the result was not what he wanted and that it was on him. He added that he takes full responsibility for the decisions he made, and that the medium tyre did not perform as well as the soft. It was the second Singapore strategy call he owned that weekend, after a sprint qualifying decision that left him sixth on the grid

Owning mistakes so openly is classy, and it shows real leadership within the team. Ferrari's overall pace looks strong, with Leclerc on the podium. Hamilton feeling unwell makes the result more understandable, and hopefully he recovers quickly before Austin

Was Hamilton too hard on himself? And how much should drivers be involved in strategy calls?

Sixth is still decent points. It feels like a disappointment because more was possible. Over a season these things balance out. Ferrari will want both cars higher, though. Constructor points add up

Hope he is feeling better. Singapore is one of the most physically demanding races of the year. The heat and humidity take a lot out of drivers. Being unwell on top of that must have been miserable
