One of the biggest shocks in League Cup history happened at Highbury Stadium on Tuesday night. The Irish News, carrying PA's report, says Fleetwood Town, 18th in League Two, drew 1-1 with Premier League champions Arsenal and then won 5-3 on penalties to reach the quarter finals

Fleetwood took the lead in the 21st minute through Aaron Loupalo-Bi, who is on loan from Fulham. Viktor Gyokeres equalised five minutes after half time, scoring his first goal of the season

Arsenal had made wholesale changes, and Martin Ødegaard came on at half time to improve them. Their night got worse in the 85th minute, when teenager Max Dowman was sent off for violent conduct after kicking out at Harrison Neal. Al Jazeera reports that Mikel Arteta had a stern word with him, and a separate PA report says Arsenal will appeal the red card

Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch was the hero. He made saves from Ben White and Ødegaard during the game, then saved Arsenal's fourth penalty in the shootout. Fleetwood scored all five of theirs, and teenage defender Conor Haughey struck the winner, sparking a pitch invasion at the 5,327 capacity ground. Play had earlier been delayed for eight minutes by an unauthorised drone, and Fleetwood manager Matt Lawlor was in tears at full time

This is the kind of night that makes cup football special. A side near the bottom of League Two beating the champions is extraordinary, whatever team Arsenal put out. Arteta will be furious about the performance and the red card

Is this the biggest League Cup upset ever? And how much should Arsenal care about going out?
