Jonny Clayton has won the Swiss Darts Trophy in Basel, beating Luke Humphries 8-4 in Sunday night's final. DartsNews reports that it is his first ranking title of 2026 and his first ranking trophy since May 2025. Even better for The Ferret, the win earned him a place at the Grand Slam of Darts, which he had been kicking himself for missing in Amsterdam

His route to the title was tough. On finals day he beat Karel Sedlacek and Gian van Veen before facing Humphries. Cool Hand Luke had looked unstoppable in the semi-final, averaging 111.17 against Mensur Suljovic. It set up a final between two of the most dangerous players on the circuit

The final was level at 4-4 before Clayton pulled away with four legs in a row. That run included the first break of throw for 6-4 and an 11 darter straight after Humphries had opened a leg with six perfect darts. He sealed it with a 12 darter on a 46 finish. Humphries had the slightly higher average, 101.75 to 101.68, but Clayton's finishing made the difference, with around 62 percent on the doubles against 22 percent

The £35,000 winner's cheque moves Clayton back above James Wade to world number five. It is also his fourth European Tour title, which puts him level with Phil Taylor and Nathan Aspinall on that list. Not bad company at all

Clayton said afterwards that if you want to lift these trophies, you have to beat players like Luke. He did exactly that, and in style. After a frustrating year by his standards, this feels like the perfect moment for him to rediscover his best form ahead of the Grand Slam

Did you watch the final? And can Clayton carry this form into the Grand Slam?
