Three time world champion John Part has made a striking claim about Luke Littler. Speaking to Online Darts at the World Grand Prix in Leicester, Part said he rates Littler a lot higher than Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen at the same stage of their careers. DartsNews has the full comments

Part played down Littler's first round defeat to Luke Woodhouse in Leicester. He pointed instead to the World Matchplay, where Littler averaged around 110 across the tournament. Part said that level is not normal even for Littler, and that timing his peaks for the Grand Slam and the World Championship is what matters most

His reasoning is about age and mentality. Littler started winning major titles while still a teenager, which nobody had done in quite the same way before. Part also praised his mindset, which he thinks is as strong as his scoring

Part also pushed back on the idea that the top level of darts is weaker now than in the past. He argued that fans remember the best moments from earlier eras, while modern matches are far more visible and better recorded. That is a fair point, because older bad nights are easily forgotten

He also talked about the US Darts Masters at Madison Square Garden, which drew large and enthusiastic crowds. Part hopes it leads to more events and opportunities for North American players. As a Canadian, he would know how much that could mean

Is Part right to rate Littler above Taylor and Van Gerwen at the same age? And is the top level stronger now than in the past?

I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)
