We've got an absolutely ridiculous number of weight classes now compared to decades ago, and some of them feel completely arbitrary The old eight-division structure made sense but adding super-middleweight, super-lightweight, and another five variations has just diluted the talent pool Nobody knows who the legitimate champion is anymore because there are four different belts across sanctioning bodies

The counter argument is that modern nutrition and training allows fighters to maintain weight safer at more divisions, so having more options actually protects fighter health That's fair, but it's also created a situation where mediocre fighters can claim world titles by holding a belt from one obscure sanctioning body The casual fan is completely lost trying to work out who actually matters

Consolidating back to ten divisions maximum would create much clearer hierarchies and make the sport easier to follow for new audiences But established fighters obviously don't want reduced opportunities and sanctioning bodies profit from having multiple champions

Too many belts has absolutely destroyed boxing's credibility as a sport
