Justin Gaethje is the undisputed UFC lightweight champion after one of the most remarkable performances of his career and one of the most surreal events in MMA history. At UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington DC, with Trump and Dana White watching courtside, Gaethje survived a brutal second round where Topuria repeatedly rocked him with body shots, then turned the fight completely in the third, disfiguring Topuria's face to the point where the cageside doctor nearly stopped it. Topuria's corner stopped the fight at the end of round four, unable to send him out in the condition he was in. Gaethje wins by TKO, corner stoppage.

In the co-main event, Ciryl Gane stopped Alex Pereira in round two of Pereira's heavyweight debut, denying Poatan the chance to become the first UFC fighter to win titles in three divisions. The card went seven finishes from seven bouts and was watched live on the White House lawn in what Dana White called the greatest event in combat sports history, which is his job to say but also hard to dispute purely on the basis of the setting. Gaethje at 37 finally has the undisputed title that has eluded him his entire career.

What did you make of Gaethje vs Topuria and where does Gaethje's career rank in UFC lightweight history now?

Watching Gaethje absorb that second round and then come out in the third and take Topuria apart is what makes him the greatest action fighter in MMA history. He has done this his entire career. The heart was never in question

Topuria looked genuinely finished in that third round. The face was a mess and the doctor was right there. The fact that the fourth round happened at all was brave from Topuria's corner but they made the right call not sending him out for five
