The Bazball era under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes has now had enough time to assess properly. The aggressive, positive style of play transformed England's Test results dramatically from their previous era. The question now is whether the approach has settled into something sustainable or whether opposition teams have worked out how to counter it.

The results have been impressive but not perfect and there are legitimate questions about whether the method translates to all conditions, particularly in Asia. There is also the ongoing question of selection philosophy and whether the commitment to positive cricket extends to the right personnel choices.

The results speak for themselves over the period as a whole even accounting for the wobbles. England were a struggling Test side and now they are an exciting one. That transformation happened for a reason
