Do refs and umpires actually get enough credit for how hard their job has become

[Ivory Molly]

Genuinely think officials get treated as an afterthought until they make one mistake, and the actual difficulty of tracking a fast game in real time rarely gets acknowledged

Curious how people actually feel about this, not the reflexive complaint about a bad call, the genuine respect question underneath it

[VoidWalker79]

No, definitely not enough credit, tried reffing amateur games myself once and it completely changed my perspective on how hard real time judgment actually is

[Linda52]

Honestly think fans only ever notice officials when something goes wrong, the hundreds of correct calls in a single game never get acknowledged at all

[Anthony92]

Weirdly think it depends heavily on the sport, some officiating is inconsistent enough to deserve real criticism beyond just one bad night

[Florence19]

Yeah completely agree, the abuse officials take at every level from youth sports upward is disproportionate to how difficult that job actually is

[GhostRider63]

Same take as most people here honestly, tried officiating a youth league myself briefly and never criticized a professional call the same way again

[Paul]

Nah I think the criticism is mostly fair given how much money is riding on professional level decisions now, the stakes justify higher scrutiny

[Phil7]

Genuinely respect it more the older I get, watching how much ground a single official has to cover mentally and physically in real time is honestly impressive
