Chelsea beat ten-man Manchester United 2-0 as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick

Manchester United's slump goes on. ESPN reports that Chelsea beat a ten man United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, piling more pressure on manager Michael Carrick

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring around five minutes after half time, dribbling through the United defence and finishing past Senne Lammens. Lisandro Martínez was then sent off for a second yellow card just three and a half minutes after his first, with VAR confirming he had elbowed Wesley Fofana as a Chelsea corner came in. Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot, his shot going in off the post after Lammens got two hands to it

Chelsea could have won by more. Matheus Cunha and Estêvão both had goals ruled out for offside in the first half, and Estêvão had another disallowed late on. United's best moment came when Bryan Mbeumo hit the bar in injury time

United are now without a win in nine matches in all competitions, a run they have extended to ten only twice before in their history, and they have just seven points from nine league games. Many expected Carrick to go after last weekend's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, but the club gave him more time. Bruno Fernandes, dropped for that game after criticising Carrick's tactics, returned to the starting line up. Chelsea, under Xabi Alonso, ended a run of two straight defeats

Seven points from nine games is relegation form for a club of United's size, and the atmosphere around the team looks toxic. Martínez's red card summed up a frustrating afternoon. A Champions League game against Roma on Tuesday now carries huge pressure

How long can Carrick survive at Manchester United? And are United in a serious relegation battle?
