Cape Verde, making their World Cup debut, drew 0-0 with Spain in their first game thanks to goalkeeper Vozinha who is 40 years old and apparently made of something Spain's entire attack couldn't penetrate. Then in game two against Uruguay, Cape Verde scored first. Again. Against Uruguay. The tiny island nation with a population of half a million people is not just participating in the World Cup they are competing and creating moments. Uruguay equalised and have gone ahead but Cape Verde's story is already something special. Vozinha went from unknown to having millions of social media followers overnight. This is exactly what the expanded World Cup format was supposed to create.
