Canelo Alvarez is a world champion again. ABC7, carrying an AP report, says Alvarez beat Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision in Riyadh to regain the WBC super middleweight title

The judges scored it 115-112, 116-111 and 117-110. Alvarez, 36, moves to 64-3-2, while Mbilli suffered the first defeat of his professional career and is now 29-1-1. It was Alvarez's first fight since losing his undisputed titles to Terence Crawford in September 2025

Mbilli's pressure made the first half competitive as he pushed Alvarez towards the ropes. Alvarez answered with body punches and counters, landing a right uppercut and straight right in the sixth round, and his jab helped him control the tenth. Referee Hector Afu took a point from Mbilli in the eighth for a punch to the back of the head, and a late right in the final round wobbled the challenger

Alvarez credited trainer Eddy Reynoso for telling him to move, box and use his jab, and said he was very proud of his team. He made no commitment to a next opponent, saying he will rest and keep working hard. On the undercard, Jaime Munguia kept his WBA super middleweight title against Nikita Zon on points, and Rafael Espinoza kept his WBO featherweight title with a third round stoppage of Ricardo Blandon

After the Crawford defeat, many wondered whether Alvarez was in decline. This was a disciplined, intelligent performance against an unbeaten and dangerous opponent. He may not be the force of his prime, but his skill and experience are still elite

Who should Canelo fight next? And how much longer can he stay at the top?
