First sentences are the most over-polished and also the most revealing part of any fiction. They tell you what the writer thinks the story is about, what register they are working in, and whether they understand that the reader needs a reason to continue before they have established any reason to care.

Post yours. Any stage of completion, anything from something you started this week to something you have been carrying for years. If you want feedback on it, say so. If you just want to put it somewhere, that is fine too.

Mine: The morning after the wedding, my uncle drove his car into the same lake that had killed his father, which everyone agreed was either a coincidence or not.

That is a very strong first sentence. The parenthetical observation about coincidence is doing a lot of work. I want to know more about the uncle and more about the narrator.

Mine from something I abandoned three years ago: She had the kind of face that made you think she had already forgiven you for something you had not done yet.

Aaron

That line is good enough that you should go back to whatever it was for.

Something from this week, rough: The thing about an open letter is that the people it is addressed to never read it, which is probably why people write them.
