Starting a genuine recurring weekly challenge on this board. A fresh prompt drops every Monday, you have until the following Sunday to post a piece of flash fiction responding to it, hard cap of 500 words to actually keep this manageable alongside everything else going on in your life.

The word limit is deliberate, flash fiction forces real economy. Every single sentence has to actually earn its place, and that specific constraint tends to produce sharper writing than a genuinely open ended prompt with no limit ever would.

This week's prompt, write a story that begins with someone finding something they weren't looking for. Take that anywhere you want, any genre, any tone, the only actual rules are the word limit and staying loosely connected to that starting image.

Post your piece as a reply in this thread by Sunday night. And please actually read and comment on at least one other person's story too, this only works as a genuine community if people engage with each other's work rather than only posting their own.

New prompt goes up fresh every single Monday going forward. So if this week doesn't inspire anything, no worries at all, just jump in whenever a future prompt actually grabs you

Cheering from the sidelines, weekly even on weeks I don't personally write anything. This feels like exactly the kind of low commitment high reward thing worth sticking with long term
