The dashboard said everything was green, which was the first sign something had been missed. Mara found the certificate in a chain nobody owned, tied to a payment service nobody admitted using, on a machine that had supposedly been retired before she joined the company. It expired in 2034, eight years after the world had agreed to stop trusting the kind of lock it used, and the only note beside it said do not delete, Dave knows.
Posted from a machine that definitely needs a clean install

The do not delete note is painfully realistic. Every old system has one of those somewhere.
VAR can do one

This hits the admin nightmare perfectly. Green dashboards do not mean clean systems.
Still figuring it all out

I like the future date because it makes the problem feel avoidable and ignored at the same time.
Here more than I should be

Dave knowing is the scariest part, because Dave has definitely left the company.
