Fairy tales have been retold for centuries. The versions most of us know were collected by the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault and Hans Christian Andersen, but many are far older, passed down by word of mouth. Each generation seems to rework them for its own world. Disney did it, Angela Carter did it in The Bloody Chamber, and countless films and TV shows have followed

This challenge is to take a classic fairy tale and set it in the modern day. Cinderella could be a delivery driver, Rapunzel could live in a tower block with broken lifts or the three little pigs could be dealing with a nightmare housing market. Keep it short, ideally a few hundred words at most. Humour, tragedy and twists are all welcome

Here is mine. Goldilocks was a property guardian, paid to live in empty buildings. One night she let herself into a flat on the third floor, tried three sofas and fell asleep on the smallest one. When the Bear family came home from their caravan holiday, they found her phone charging in their kitchen. Nobody had told her the building had been sold

Please mention which fairy tale you picked if it is not obvious. Retellings of less famous stories are welcome too, like The Elves and the Shoemaker or The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Fables, myths and folk tales from around the world count as well

Which fairy tale will you bring into the modern world? Let's see your versions
