Despite growing hype around the intersection of quantum computing and AI, most enterprise IT departments still aren't treating quantum AI as a near term priority, reflecting a broader gap between executive belief in quantum's eventual importance and actual organizational readiness to deploy it. An IBM study on this topic found that while nearly six in ten executives expect quantum enabled AI to reshape their industry eventually, fewer than three in ten expect to actually deploy quantum tools themselves anytime soon, a mismatch IBM described as unusual compared to how belief and readiness tracked together during past technology transitions like cloud computing and cybersecurity

Part of the disconnect comes from what quantum AI actually means in practice right now. Rather than replacing classical AI systems, the genuinely near term relationship runs mostly in the opposite direction, using classical machine learning techniques to help design quantum experiments, calibrate quantum hardware and mitigate the errors that still plague current quantum systems. Using quantum computers to meaningfully accelerate AI workloads themselves, by contrast, still requires large scale, error corrected quantum systems that remain years away from being commercially available

IBM's analysis suggests quantum computing's most realistic immediate role is as a complementary accelerator for specific AI driven workflows involving optimization, simulation and probabilistic analysis, rather than any kind of wholesale AI replacement. Bosch chief expert Thomas Eckl was quoted saying quantum will never stand alone, and that classical computing, AI and quantum need to work together in connected workflows instead.
