Hexaware investing in quantum R&D in UK with 1200 jobs. They're a software company. Why do they care about quantum research?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Companies in software are looking ahead because quantum computing is not just academic anymore, it is slowly becoming a real competitive field. Even if usable large scale quantum machines are years away, research today builds influence, partnerships, and early access to breakthroughs.

For a company like that, investing now is less about immediate profit and more about positioning for the next wave of computing changes :)

Not every investment into quantum research is automatically visionary. Some firms jump in because it looks good on press releases or helps with government contracts and talent attraction.

That said, software companies do benefit from being close to cutting edge research, even if most of it never becomes product. The risk is just that a lot of money can disappear into something that stays theoretical for a long time :-\
