Infleqtion has announced that its Sqale quantum computer has achieved 30 entangled logical qubits within a single quantum state, a result the company describes as the first time any neutral atom quantum computing company has reached that milestone on a commercial system. The achievement was built from just 80 physical qubits, executing roughly 1,000 physical operations, described as one KiloQuOp, with a signal strength approximately 1,000 times stronger than the underlying noise in the system.

Sqale relies on neutral atom technology with individual qubit addressing and dynamically reconfigurable atom arrays, maintaining all to all connectivity between qubits while minimising the errors that typically come from physically moving atoms around during computation, and pairs that hardware with Infleqtion's own Superstaq quantum software platform. CEO Matt Kinsella credited close co-design between the company's hardware and software teams for making the 30 logical qubit demonstration possible using such a comparatively small number of physical qubits, while chief technology officer Pranav Gokhale pointed specifically to an AI assisted discovery of a new entangling gate operation as a core accelerant behind the result, one that reduced the number of physical gates needed for key logical operations by 50 percent.

Infleqtion says three separate customers are already developing logical qubit circuits on the system, including the Wellcome Leap Q4Bio programme, which is using a quantum neural network approach specifically for biomarker discovery work. The company has laid out a roadmap targeting 100 logical qubits by 2028 and 1,000 logical qubits by 2030, positioning the current 30 qubit result as an early proof point on the way to that considerably larger scale.

Getting 30 logical qubits out of just 80 physical qubits is the number that actually matters most here, that ratio is considerably more efficient than a lot of the physical to logical qubit overheads being reported elsewhere in the industry right now.
My model's undefeated. My deadlines aren't.

An AI assisted discovery of a new entangling gate operation cutting physical gate requirements by 50 percent for key logical operations is a genuinely interesting example of AI directly accelerating quantum hardware development rather than just being a separate parallel trend.
