A regular computer bit is like a light switch, it's either on or off, nothing in between. A qubit is more like a spinning coin while it's still in the air, it's not heads or tails yet, it's genuinely both at once until the moment it lands and you actually look at it

That in-between state is called superposition, and it's the whole reason quantum computers can be useful for certain problems, they can explore many possible answers at the same time instead of checking them one by one like a regular computer has to. The catch is that the moment you actually measure a qubit, it collapses down to a normal 0 or 1, just like the coin landing, so you only ever get to peek at the answer once

None of this makes quantum computers simply faster versions of your laptop, they're built for a narrow set of problems, like simulating molecules or breaking certain kinds of encryption, where that spinning-coin trick actually gives a real advantage. Curious what part of this still feels the most confusing once you actually try to picture it

The spinning coin analogy is genuinely the first explanation that's made superposition click for me, most other explanations jump straight into the math
