Australian quantum computing company Diraq and Dell Technologies have completed a hands on test integrating Diraq's silicon spin qubit quantum processor with a Dell high performance computing cluster, deploying the setup inside Diraq's own Sydney laboratory specifically to measure connectivity, latency and how well a hybrid workflow actually holds up when classical and quantum hardware are asked to work together on the same problem in real time.

The approach leans heavily on Diraq's specific technical bet within the wider quantum industry, building qubits out of modified silicon transistors that are compatible with existing semiconductor manufacturing processes, rather than the more exotic materials some competing quantum architectures rely on. Diraq CEO Andrew Dzurak explained the underlying philosophy behind the test, saying the goal is systems that call on classical AI and CPUs for the big number crunching, and only call on the quantum processing unit when a specific hard problem actually demands it, treating the quantum chip as a specialised accelerator rather than a full replacement for conventional computing.

Dell's Global CTO John Roese framed the collaboration in similarly practical terms, arguing that the really complex problems in the world need systems that bring different types of compute together rather than relying on any single technology in isolation. The stated target applications for this kind of hybrid setup include drug discovery, logistics optimisation, financial modelling and quantum error correction itself, all areas where a narrow but genuinely difficult sub problem could theoretically be handed off to a quantum processor while the surrounding workflow stays firmly on conventional infrastructure.
