Why I Created This Quantum Computing Resource on QDay.Forum


I've been preparing my Quantum Computing Resource for a while, and I wanted to write a blog post alongside it to explain why.

This is not because I believe I am a quantum computing expert. I am not.

There are researchers, professors, engineers, and scientists who have spent decades working in quantum physics, quantum information, and quantum hardware. Their knowledge goes far beyond anything I could cover in a forum article.

This resource has a much simpler goal.

I wanted to create an understandable introduction to quantum computing for people who are curious but do not know where to start.

Because, at some point, we were all beginners.


Why Quantum Computing?


My background is in computers.  I have spent many years interested in technology, software, hardware, and how computing has evolved.
Like many people who grew up with computers, I have watched the industry go through enormous changes:
  • Personal computers becoming mainstream
  • The rise of the internet
  • Mobile computing
  • Cloud technology
  • Artificial intelligence

Quantum computing feels like another one of those moments where something that was once mostly discussed in research circles is starting to enter public conversation.

For years, quantum computing was something many people only heard about in science papers or university research.

Now it is becoming a topic discussed by:
  • Technology companies
  • Governments
  • Cybersecurity experts
  • Investors
  • AI researchers
  • The general public

Naturally, this creates a lot of questions.

The Questions Everyone Keeps Asking About Quantum Computing


As quantum computing becomes more popular, the same questions keep appearing.

Questions such as:
  • Why is quantum computing the future?
  • How does quantum computing work?
  • What can quantum computing actually do?
  • When is quantum computing coming?
  • When will quantum computing become mainstream?
  • Will quantum computing change the world?
  • Can quantum computing break encryption?
  • Can quantum computing break blockchain?
  • Will quantum computing help artificial intelligence?
  • How can quantum computing be used in drug discovery?
  • Where is quantum computing used today?
  • Who uses quantum computing?
  • Who makes quantum computing chips?
  • What quantum computing companies are publicly traded?
  • Which quantum computing stock is best?
  • Are quantum computing stocks a good investment?
  • Are quantum computing stocks undervalued?
  • Why are quantum computing stocks going down?

Rather than answering the same questions repeatedly in different discussions, I wanted to create one resource that people could use as a starting point.

This Is Not Intended to Replace Expert Research


This article is not meant to compete with academic research or expert analysis. Quantum computing is an incredibly deep field involving:
  • Quantum mechanics
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Computer science
  • Engineering
  • Cryptography

There are people far more qualified than me who specialise in each individual area.

The purpose of this resource is different.

It is written for the person who has heard about quantum computing but is thinking:

"Okay, but what actually is it?"
"Why does everyone keep talking about it?"
"How could it affect the future?"

Explaining Quantum Computing in Familiar Language


One of the challenges with quantum computing is that the subject can become complicated very quickly.

The science behind it is genuinely difficult.

Even experts often describe quantum mechanics as something that challenges our everyday understanding of reality.

That makes it easy for explanations to become filled with technical terms that leave beginners more confused than when they started.

The aim here is different.

The goal is to explain:
  • What quantum computing is
  • Why it matters
  • Where it may be useful
  • What problems it could solve
  • What limitations it currently faces

Without requiring someone to already understand advanced physics.

Building QDay Forum Into a Quality Technology Resource


One of my goals with QDay Forum is to build a quality resource around quantum technology.

Not just news headlines.

Not just hype.

Not just investment speculation.

Technology discussions often become dominated by predictions and excitement, but understanding the foundations is important.

A good community should allow people to:
  • Ask beginner questions without feeling uncomfortable
  • Learn from more experienced members
  • Discuss new developments
  • Challenge ideas respectfully
  • Share different perspectives

Hopefully this resource provides a useful starting point for those conversations.

If you know more about quantum computing than I do, I would genuinely welcome corrections, suggestions, and improvements.

Technology communities improve when people share knowledge.

The goal is not to pretend one article contains everything.

The goal is to create a useful doorway into a fascinating subject.

Quantum computing is still developing, and nobody knows exactly how the full story will unfold.

That is what makes it such an interesting time to be watching it.

Explaining what is quantum has me stumped some days explaining it in understandable language. especially here where English might not be ones first language

This is exactly the kind of thing a community needs. Quantum computing can feel like a wall of complicated terminology when you first encounter it, so having a friendly introduction makes a huge difference.

The point about everyone being a beginner once really stood out. The best technology communities are the ones where newcomers can ask questions without feeling like they are bothering people. Great idea :)

A really good approach to this topic. There is so much hype around quantum computing that it is easy for people to either dismiss it completely or assume it will magically solve every problem tomorrow.

Having a resource that explains both the possibilities and the limitations is much more useful. Looking forward to seeing how this section grows as quantum technology develops.

This was a great read. The part about not trying to replace experts is actually what makes the article more approachable. Sometimes the biggest barrier to learning is finding an explanation that does not assume you already have a degree in the subject.

Quantum is one of those areas where curiosity is the first step. A simple starting point can lead people into learning some fascinating science. :)

Really appreciate the effort that has gone into this. Building a knowledge base instead of just posting random headlines gives the forum a much stronger identity.

One thing I would love to see in the future is more beginner discussions around specific areas like quantum security, AI, and real world examples. Those are the topics that seem to get people interested the most.

The funny thing about quantum computing is that the more you learn about it, the more questions you seem to have :D

That is why a beginner friendly guide is valuable. It does not need to explain every equation or engineering challenge, it just needs to help people understand the bigger picture and encourage them to explore further.

Great community idea and a good reminder that every expert was once someone searching for their first explanation.

I also like the focus on welcoming corrections and discussion. The technology is changing so quickly that even good resources will need updates over time. Having a place where people can discuss and improve the information is a big advantage.

This is exactly the kind of on-ramp people need. Quantum topics tend to jump from "what is a qubit" straight to dense math, so a curated, beginner-friendly path is a lifesaver. Thanks for putting in the time to stitch it together :)

Also appreciate the honesty about questions multiplying. Feels like every answer opens three more doors, and half of them are labeled "it depends".

Really glad you shared this. The field can feel gatekept by jargon, so having a resource that translates without dumbing down is gold. Your approach of layering concepts is especially helpful.

Minor pushback though: sometimes too much simplification hides where the weirdness actually matters. A section that flags "here be dragons" topics (like measurement or noise) could be a nice middle ground.

Out of interest, are you planning to include practical tooling? Even a small intro to simulators or SDKs would help people cross from theory into tinkering.

Appreciate the effort here, seriously. Communities grow when someone takes the time to make the first map. This feels like that map.

That said, I am a bit undecided on whether forums are the best place for long-form resources these days :-\ Might be worth mirroring it somewhere more structured too?

Love the vibe of this. Quantum computing always feels like it is half science, half philosophy, so a guide that acknowledges the confusion instead of pretending it is simple is refreshing.

Also, the "more you learn, more questions" thing is basically the unofficial slogan of the field at this point ;)

Massive thanks for putting this together. It takes a lot to build something for beginners without talking down to them.

One thought though, a small glossary could go a long way. Even familiar words get weird meanings in quantum land, and that trips people up more than the math sometimes.
