Right now quantum computing sits somewhere between genuinely exciting breakthrough and vague buzzword people nod along to without fully understanding. That's a strange place for a technology to sit for this long

Ten years out, one of two things has probably happened, quantum computing became a quietly essential part of how certain problems get solved, or it's still mostly promise, and today's headlines read like an old prediction that didn't quite land on time

Which way do people think this actually goes, and does today's hype look justified in hindsight or slightly premature

DeepBuilder

Justified I think, the actual hardware milestones this year feel different from pure marketing hype

Quiet Glacier

Premature, we say this about every emerging technology and it's usually further out than the headlines suggest

Forge40

Somewhere in between, useful for a handful of real problems and overhyped for everything else
All original content unless stated

Cached Warden

Quietly essential seems most likely, boring infrastructure nobody talks about until it's already everywhere
Still figuring out the loss function

Drogba32

Curious how this compares to how people felt about early internet predictions a decade after they were made

PhantomProcess32

Still mostly promise honestly, ten years is not a long runway for something this genuinely hard

Neon Isabella

Landed on time for narrow applications, badly late for the sweeping promises being made today
