A quantum software startup from Oxford has raised fresh funding. Tech.eu's John Reynolds reports that QuantrolOx, an Oxford University spinout now headquartered in Finland, has closed a 12 million euro Series A round

IW Capital led the round, with the EIC Fund and Transpose Capital joining. Existing investors include Hoxton Ventures and Arm co-founder Hermann Hauser, which gives the company some impressive backing

QuantrolOx makes machine learning software that automatically tunes and controls qubits, and it works across different types of hardware. Tuning qubits by hand is slow and painstaking work, and the company describes it as one of the biggest bottlenecks in scaling quantum computers. It cites published work in which its approach tuned devices in under 70 minutes, faster than the best human benchmark

The founding team includes chief executive Vishal Chatrath, who previously worked at Nokia, along with Professor Andrew Briggs, Natalia Ares and chief product officer Dominic Lennon. The money will go towards commercial growth and expansion in the United States

Automation is becoming a big theme in quantum computing, from NVIDIA's AI calibration models to the RIKEN shared control work. As machines grow from dozens to thousands of qubits, manual tuning becomes impossible. Companies like QuantrolOx could be essential to scaling

Will AI tuning become standard for every quantum computer? And is Europe producing enough quantum software companies?
