A Forbes Technology Council post argues that businesses should start planning for AI and quantum computing as parts of the same future architecture. The author, Rajjie Sarmey, founder of FutureProof CXO, says the more important question is how the two technologies will work together inside companies

Sarmey points out that AI is already scaling rapidly, handling coding, prediction, optimisation and agentic workflows, while quantum computing is still constrained, specialised and dependent on the type of problem. He sees quantum's near term value in tackling specific hard problems, not replacing classical computing

He expects future infrastructure to mix CPUs, GPUs, AI accelerators, supercomputers and quantum processors, with each job going wherever it runs best. He also expects the convergence to work both ways, with AI helping quantum systems with calibration and error correction, and quantum later helping AI explore complex molecular and chemical problems

The post references Google's Willow error correction work, IBM's roadmap towards fault tolerance in 2029 and NIST's post quantum cryptography standards. Sarmey stresses that the post quantum security risk is already actionable, whenever a cryptographically relevant quantum computer finally arrives

His recommendations are sensible. Find hard business problems rather than looking for ways to use quantum, run focused hybrid pilots against classical baselines, build crypto agility now, and avoid any enterprise wide quantum transformation. In his words, do not migrate your enterprise to quantum yet

Is AI and quantum convergence a real near term issue for businesses? And how many companies are prepared for post quantum cryptography?
