Irish quantum company Equal1 is strengthening its leadership as it moves towards production. The Quantum Insider reports that Andrew Flynn has joined as chief operating officer, overseeing operations as Equal1 scales up RacQ, its rack mounted silicon quantum computer

Flynn has more than 20 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing. He was vice president of manufacturing and quality at Decawave, and after Qorvo bought Decawave in 2020 he became its Dublin site lead

Before that he spent 11 years at Xilinx in Dublin and Singapore, giving him experience of high volume chip production across different regions

Chief executive Jason Lynch said Flynn joins at a pivotal moment. Flynn said Equal1 is leading the industry in making quantum computing deployable and scalable. The announcement comes from a press release and does not give a start date or specific targets

Hiring a manufacturing specialist rather than another physicist shows where Equal1's priorities are. Silicon quantum computers are meant to benefit from existing chip production, and Flynn knows that world well. It fits Lynch's recent comments about investor confidence in the company

How important is manufacturing experience for quantum companies? And can silicon qubits benefit from the chip industry's know how?
