Simple game, rules in the post.

Real answers from people here are usually more useful than search results. :)

Any thoughts welcome

A lot of people forget how much variety there is in games starting with A. Assassin's Creed is the obvious one, but I would probably go with Advance Wars. Simple looking on the surface, then suddenly you are three hours deep planning every move like a tiny military genius :)

B has to be Banjo-Kazooie for me. The humour, the music, the weird characters, everything about it felt different when it came out. Plenty of newer games are technically better, but few have that same charm.

Donna

Going slightly old school with C and saying Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Still holds up incredibly well. The exploration, atmosphere and soundtrack are all things that modern games could learn from.

Southern Jay

D is a tough one because there are loads of good choices. Doom deserves a mention though. The original changed things forever, and the newer ones proved the series could come back without just copying the past.

Elden Ring for E. Not even a difficult choice for me. The first time wandering into an area and realising you are completely outmatched was both terrifying and brilliant :D
It's not a bug, it's a feature

F has to be Fallout for me. The later games get most of the attention, but the whole idea of rebuilding a world after disaster is what made the series interesting in the first place.

Going with Ghost of Tsushima for G. Beautiful game, brilliant combat and one of those rare open worlds where I actually wanted to clear the map instead of feeling like I was doing chores.

Cheugy58

Hades for H. A game that should have been a quick distraction somehow became a full obsession. The amount of story they managed to put into repeated runs was seriously impressive.

Jarvis

I will throw in ICO for I. Not the biggest game in terms of content, but it showed how atmosphere and silence can carry an experience. Sometimes less really is more.

BigDog

J is definitely Jet Set Radio for me. The style was completely unique and the soundtrack is still stuck in my head years later. Hard to explain why it worked, but it just did.

ForumGremlin

Kingdom Hearts for K. Yes, the story became a confusing maze with enough twists to need a spreadsheet, but the first game was magical. Disney worlds mixed with Final Fantasy characters was a wild idea that somehow worked.
Gunners for life.

Crossing

L is for Luigi's Mansion. Great example of a game taking a familiar character and giving him a completely different role. The ghost hunting mechanics were simple but loads of fun.

Thomas_69

Might be predictable, but Mario deserves M. The series has reinvented itself so many times that it is hard to argue against it. From platformers to kart racing, that name covers decades of gaming.

HardyBoy_WCW

Nier: Automata gets my vote for N. Strange choice maybe, but it is one of those games where the less you know going in, the better. The music alone is worth experiencing.

CrimsonNova28

O is for Okami. Gorgeous art style and a game that felt like playing through a moving painting. It never got the same attention as some bigger titles, which is a shame.

Shane

Portal for P. Short, clever and one of those games where you remember the exact moment the mechanics click. Still one of the best examples of doing a lot with a simple idea.

Q is always the awkward one in these lists. Quake gets my vote though. It was a huge step forward for first person shooters and deserves respect for what it influenced.
