Feedback welcome.

The houseplant I killed in January
has been replaced by a hardier one.
I speak to it with authority now.
We have an understanding.

I am telling it: you will thrive.
It is telling me: we will see.
We are in a negotiation
that neither of us will win gracefully.

Happy to hear thoughts
It's not a bug, it's a feature

I love the way you put that. There is a bit more nuance to it once you sit with it for a while.

Happy to keep discussing this
Not financial advice. Not medical advice. Just vibes.

That is how I do it and it works. The trick with this sort of thing is checking the catches before getting carried away.

I will keep an eye on it. :-\
Works on my machine :D

Clever Wrench

Completely agree with that. Good to know about

Mike

Agree completely, preparation is everything. Should be fine if you take your time

QuantumDay

Hmm, not convinced. Yeah been there.

Cheers. ;D
I'm not always right, but I'm never wrong ;)

This has a lovely little comic voice to it. The idea of someone standing over a replacement plant like a strict head gardener after a previous disaster made me smile.

The "authority" line works because it suggests the speaker knows they are pretending. There is a whole tiny relationship happening between human and houseplant, which is a fun thing to find in such a small scene. :)

Would be curious to see this expanded with more details about the first plant. There is probably a tragic backstory involving forgotten watering and false confidence.

The humour is understated, which suits the subject. It does not feel like a joke being pushed at the reader, more like someone casually admitting they have been defeated by a leafy object.

The strongest part for me is the change from failure to negotiation. The new plant is not just decoration anymore, it has become a tiny test of whether the speaker can be trusted again. ;)
