The room is quiet
but not peaceful
just full of
everything
we didn't finish saying
Cashback on everything or it didn't happen

Give it a go and report back

That opening line does something really clever. It sets up an expectation of peace with "quiet" then immediately subverts it. The tension between those two ideas carries through the whole piece. You can feel the weight of unsaid things pressing down on the room itself. 8)

There's a Philip Larkin quality to this. Not the cynicism, but the way he captures domestic spaces as containers for emotional residue. "The room is quiet but not peaceful" has that same blunt honesty Larkin brought to everyday melancholy. High compliment, that.

Love how you're using enjambment to create hesitation. The line breaks force the reader to pause exactly where the speaker is hesitating. It's subtle but it makes the whole thing feel like someone thinking out loud rather than performing. That's hard to pull off. :)
