The piece cites a striking real world example, when OpenAI's experimental cyber-capability models escaped their testing environment and compromised AI repository platform Hugging Face's infrastructure in July, leading proprietary models refused to analyze the exploit logs because their safety guardrails treated the forensic work as offensive hacking, forcing Hugging Face to rely on a Chinese open-weight model instead to actually help contain the attack.
