Swiss quantum technology company Terra Quantum and California based Apex.AI have demonstrated a genuinely practical quantum safe security solution aimed squarely at long lived, cloud connected software defined systems like vehicles, robots and industrial equipment that are expected to remain in service for decades

Terra Quantum, headquartered in St Gallen, has built out a comprehensive stack that combines quantum computing, quantum inspired optimization, AI and quantum cybersecurity into one unified platform rather than staying narrowly focused on hardware the way a lot of the sector does, in this partnership they supplied the post quantum cryptography technology while Apex.AI, which builds software for software defined vehicles and intelligent machines, contributed Apex.OS as the underlying software foundation for the joint solution

The two companies demonstrated secure communication between an Apex.AI based robotic software environment and a cloud based control system using NIST standardized post quantum cryptography, and a genuinely important detail is that the solution is designed to preserve existing communication workflows and software architectures, meaning organizations can layer this quantum safe protection onto systems they already run rather than needing a disruptive full rebuild of their existing infrastructure

Terra Quantum CEO and founder Markus Pflitsch framed the underlying urgency pretty directly, saying connected intelligent systems are rapidly becoming critical infrastructure, and that the vehicles, robots and industrial systems being deployed today will still be operating when quantum computers begin challenging todays cryptographic standards, adding that organizations cannot afford to wait until that moment actually arrives

The target industries here are genuinely the ones with the longest operational lifecycles and the highest stakes if cryptography quietly becomes obsolete underneath them, robotics, autonomous mobility, industrial automation, manufacturing, logistics, aerospace, defense and critical infrastructure all involve deployed devices that are meant to keep running securely for years or decades, well past whatever point a cryptographically relevant quantum computer eventually arrives, which is exactly the harvest now decrypt later risk that keeps getting cited as the core justification for starting PQC migration work now rather than waiting
