OpenAI and Microsoft are reportedly rewriting the rules of their partnership again. The latest claims suggest the revenue sharing agreement is now capped at $38 billion, which could give OpenAI more room to sign deals with other cloud and infrastructure providers.

It feels like the relationship is shifting from dependency into strategic coexistence. Microsoft still gets huge benefits from OpenAI products, but OpenAI clearly wants more independence before any future IPO discussions begin. A lot of people in AI were predicting this split in direction eventually.
