Arqit Quantum, Es'hailSat and AIEE successfully demonstrated quantum safe security on a live satellite communications link on September 1st. The demonstration took place at Es'hailSat's Tier-4 certified Teleport facility in Doha, integrating post quantum cryptographic protection with existing operational satellite infrastructure rather than requiring a separate purpose built system

The project introduced quantum safe cryptographic protection across operational networks without disrupting the existing systems already running through the facility, which the companies say validates a practical path toward strengthening satellite communications resilience against future quantum computing threats. Satellite links are considered particularly exposed to future quantum decryption risk given how long data transmitted over them, including sensitive government and defense communications, may need to stay confidential

This kind of live, operational demonstration matters more than a lab only test since it shows the encryption actually works layered onto infrastructure that's already running real traffic rather than a specially constructed isolated environment. Curious what people think about satellite communications specifically as a priority area for post quantum migration compared to more commonly discussed targets like banking or government records
