There's a real physical ritual to it too, actually holding the record, dropping the needle, being forced to listen to a full album rather than skipping tracks constantly. But the actual measurable audio fidelity of vinyl objectively lags behind lossless digital formats in most controlled listening tests. Curious whether people think the vinyl preference is genuinely about sound quality or mostly about everything surrounding the actual listening experience

The technical case against vinyl is honestly pretty strong, since surface noise, wear over repeated plays, and the physical limitations of cutting a groove all introduce genuine distortion that lossless digital formats simply don't have. A lot of what people describe as warmth is really just that added distortion and compression happening during the mastering process specifically for vinyl releases. Feels like the debate is really about ritual and nostalgia dressed up as an audio quality argument
