Everyone has a few songs they love but would hesitate to admit in public. Maybe it is a cheesy pop hit from the nineties, a novelty song, a power ballad or something your teenage self would have mocked mercilessly. They are the songs you turn up when you are alone in the car and skip quickly when someone else gets in. Some people argue there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, only good songs and snobbery

Guilty pleasures often come from childhood, holidays, school discos or weddings. Steps, Vengaboys, Aqua, S Club 7, Westlife, Celine Dion, Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler all seem to turn up in these discussions. Then there are artists who were mocked at the time but have been reappraised since, like ABBA, who went from uncool to universally loved. What counts as guilty also depends on what kind of music you normally listen to

My guilty pleasure is Tragedy by Steps. I usually listen to indie and rock, and my friends would never let me forget it if they saw my playlists. But the moment it comes on, I am doing the hand movements, whether anyone is watching or not. It reminds me of school discos in a way nothing else can

Please name the song and artist, and tell us why you love it. Please do not quote the lyrics, just the title. No judgement here, apart from the gentle teasing that is part of the fun

Which guilty pleasure songs do you secretly love? Or do you think guilty pleasures should not exist?

There is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. If a song makes you happy, enjoy it

Music snobbery is far more embarrassing than liking pop. The idea of guilty pleasures comes from worrying about what other people think. Life is too short
