Financial advice online tends to lean toward either extremely aggressive strategies or vague general platitudes, but the habits that actually seem to move the needle for most regular people tend to be genuinely unglamorous and almost boring by comparison. Curious what boring habit has quietly made the biggest actual difference for people here.

Mine was setting up a fully automatic transfer to savings the exact same day my paycheck lands, before I ever get a chance to actually see or spend that money in the first place. Sounds almost too simple to matter, but removing the decision entirely made a genuinely enormous difference over several years.

These kinds of habits rarely get discussed with much enthusiasm since they are genuinely unexciting. But the actual compounding effect over years tends to matter way more than any individual clever decision made in a single moment.

Would love to hear the boring habits that actually worked for other people. Specifically avoiding anything that requires constant active attention or genuine expertise, just the kind of quiet automatic system that works in the background without much thought required.
Bonus points if you can explain roughly how long it took before you actually noticed the habit was making a real measurable difference, since I suspect most of these take longer to show results than people initially expect going in
