Revolut customers around the world found themselves unable to use the app on Tuesday morning. BleepingComputer's Sergiu Gatlan reports that a major outage disrupted most of the fintech's services, with its status page listing 28 affected areas

The problems covered sign ins, card payments, transfers, currency exchange, stock trading and live chat support. Thousands of users reported issues on Downdetector, which is a stressful situation for anyone trying to pay for something

Revolut later blamed an incident at Google Cloud and said all services had been restored, adding that customers' money and data were safe. The Register reported on problems at Google Cloud's London region on the same day, and Reuters linked the outage to a power event there

Revolut serves more than 80 million customers in over 160 countries and regions. It also disclosed a social engineering data breach last month, so this is another difficult moment for the company's reputation

Outages like this show how much modern banking depends on a handful of cloud providers. A problem in one region can stop millions of people paying for things. Banks increasingly need to spread their systems across regions and providers to stay resilient

Were you affected by the Revolut outage? And should banks be required to use more than one cloud provider?

Regulators will be interested in this. The Bank of England has been warning about cloud concentration risk for years

Outages like this prove the point. Expect new rules on operational resilience
