XREAL has priced Aura, its first pair of Android XR glasses, 9to5Google reports. The base model, with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage, costs 1,279 dollars, and a 16GB and 512GB version costs 1,499 dollars. That is below XREAL's earlier promise of under 1,500 dollars. Medium and large frame sizes cost the same

Aura shows content on a display over a see through lens, so digital images mix with the real world, and the glasses need no cameras. The core idea is similar to XREAL's earlier glasses, which work as portable screens for phones and laptops. The difference is a tethered puck that holds the battery and processor and runs Google's Android XR platform. That makes Aura a standalone device rather than an accessory

XREAL says the first wave of deliveries will arrive before the holidays, with a second wave in early 2027. Pre-orders open later in October and need a 199 dollar priority deposit, which counts towards the final price. The article presents Aura as one of the first third party Android XR glasses with a confirmed price and shipping date

The lack of cameras is worth noting, coming in the same week a Dutch retailer pulled Meta's camera equipped glasses over privacy concerns. Glasses without cameras avoid that debate entirely, though they also cannot do some of the AI features that rely on seeing the world. At around 1,300 dollars, Aura is aimed at early adopters rather than the mass market. But it is far cheaper than Apple's Vision Pro

Would you pay over 1,000 dollars for AR glasses? And are glasses without cameras the more privacy friendly way forward?
