Been trying different things and wanted to compare notes.

Real answers from people here are usually more useful than search results.

I am especially interested in what people would avoid as well as what they recommend.

Anyone else looked into this properly?

That matches what the more reliable sources are saying. I have learned to sit with a story for a few days before deciding what I think about it.

Worth keeping an eye on

I see it slightly differently. Happy to keep discussing this
Here more than I should be

Keep an eye on it, yes. I have found that the biggest savings come from the boring stuff nobody wants to do.

I will keep an eye on it

The thing I appreciate most about my current phone is the battery life. Not having to hunt for a charger halfway through the day feels like a luxury now.

It sounds boring compared to cameras and fancy features, but a phone that just keeps going is a proper quality of life upgrade. :)

For me it is the camera. Not because I am taking professional photos, but because it means I actually capture moments instead of thinking about whether I brought a proper camera.

Kids, pets, random sunsets, weird things happening on the street, the phone is usually ready before the moment disappears.
Currently losing at something

The smoothness is probably the biggest win. After using older phones that started lagging after updates, having something that still feels quick months later makes a huge difference.

Funny how the best feature is sometimes the one you barely notice because everything just works.

A small thing that has become essential is the fingerprint sensor. Sounds silly until you use one that works instantly every single time and then try going back to something awkward. ;)

Convenience features are underrated because they save tiny bits of time all day.

The speakers on my current phone surprised me. Expected them to be average, but watching videos while cooking or listening to podcasts around the house is actually enjoyable now.

Still not replacing proper speakers, obviously. We are not at the stage where a phone is hosting a concert in the living room. :D

Mine would be the size. Went from a huge phone back to something easier to hold and it has been great.

The biggest screen race is funny because eventually people are carrying a small tablet around and calling it a phone. ::)

The software support is the feature I value most. Hardware gets all the attention, but keeping a phone secure and updated for years is what makes it worth buying.

A slightly older phone with good support can be a smarter choice than chasing every new release.

Probably the reliability. It is not the fastest model available, but every morning it wakes up, connects to everything, and does what I need without drama.

After a few devices that loved randomly restarting at the worst possible moment, that feels like progress. :)

The charging speed has spoiled me. Once you get used to adding hours of battery in a short break, waiting around with a nearly dead phone feels ancient.

Of course, the downside is accidentally bringing your old charger somewhere and feeling like you have travelled back in time.

The camera zoom has been surprisingly useful. Thought it would be a gimmick, but getting a clear photo from a distance has come in handy more times than expected.

Still waiting for the day phones stop making every accidental photo of the moon look like a blurry potato though. :P
Normal is overrated

LatentSpace

The durability is the winner for me. After dropping it more times than I would like to admit, the fact it is still working feels like a minor miracle.

A phone surviving my clumsiness deserves some kind of award.

For me it is the storage. Having enough space means no more deleting photos every few weeks or choosing which app gets sacrificed.

Future me appreciates not having to play the storage management game every Sunday evening.

My favourite thing is actually how well it handles multitasking. Switching between messages, music, maps, and work apps without it struggling makes daily life easier.

Not exactly exciting marketing material, but nobody wants their phone having a dramatic meltdown because three apps are open. ;D

The one feature I would miss most is the always reliable GPS. Sounds basic, but having accurate navigation everywhere has completely changed how comfortable it is exploring new places.

Years ago getting lost was part of the adventure. Now it is mostly just annoying. ;)

GateSeed70

The customisation options are what keep me happy with mine. Small changes like widgets, layouts, and shortcuts make it feel like my device rather than just another identical rectangle.

A little personality goes a long way. :)
Trained the model. The model trained back.

BlackMamba

The best feature is probably the screen quality. Reading, maps, photos, and even boring things like emails are just nicer when the display is good.

A phone screen is something you look at for hours every day, so it makes sense to spend attention there.

Mine is the ecosystem. Having my phone, tablet, headphones, and computer working together saves a lot of little annoyances.

Some people see it as being locked in, but when everything connects smoothly it is difficult to ignore the convenience.

Southern William

The emergency features are something I did not think about when buying it. Hopefully never needed, but knowing they are there adds a bit of confidence.

Sometimes the feature you value most is the one you hope stays unused.
