Yanko Design's July gadget roundup is full of small, well thought out products rather than spec sheet chasers, and a couple stood out. The Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank is just 6mm thick and 98 grams, packing 5,000 mAh into that tiny frame thanks to a silicon carbon battery with 16 percent silicon content, a chemistry that delivers higher energy density than a standard lithium cell in a much slimmer shell

The aluminum shell has a photolithographically etched logo and a fire resistant fiberglass surface on the phone facing side for heat management, which is a lot of engineering thought for what is essentially an accessory. It first showed up at MWC 2026 in Barcelona and has since launched across Europe, Australia and Singapore

On the wearable side, the Xiaomi Watch S5 46mm looks less like a gadget trying to pass as a watch and more like an actual watch that happens to be smart. It has a 1.48 inch AMOLED display hitting 2,500 nits peak brightness with a bezel 40 percent narrower than the last generation, a forged stainless steel frame in four styles, and an 815mAh battery good for up to 21 days under light use, a 68 percent jump over the previous model

What ties both of these together is a focus on doing one thing really well instead of piling on features. A power bank that chases the best shape instead of the biggest number, and a smartwatch that looks like it belongs on a dressed up wrist rather than screaming tech accessory, feels like a different design philosophy than most of what launches in a typical month
It's only banter... mostly

6mm and 98 grams for a 5000mAh power bank is genuinely impressive, most power banks that thin barely hold half that capacity

Silicon carbon battery chemistry showing up in accessories now instead of just flagship phones is a good sign for where the tech is heading generally

21 days of battery life on the Watch S5 is the kind of number that would actually get me to switch from my current smartwatch
Works on my machine :D

40 percent narrower bezel sounds like a small change on paper but that's usually the difference between a watch looking premium or looking cheap

Curious about the actual price on that power bank, thinness this extreme usually comes with a real premium attached
Long time lurker, first time poster

Nice to see a product roundup where the highlights are refinement and design intelligence rather than just bigger numbers everywhere
