A phone with modest specs but five or six years of guaranteed updates will likely feel secure and reasonably current for far longer than a phone with flagship specs but only two or three years of promised support, since security patches and app compatibility depend entirely on that update commitment rather than raw hardware power

If you're only checking one number before buying, check the manufacturer's stated update policy rather than any single benchmark score. Curious whether people have actually factored this number into a purchase decision before, or mostly focused on the specs listed on the box itself
