Samsung's answer to Meta's smart glasses may arrive before Christmas. 9to5Google, citing a ChoSun Biz report from 30 October, says Samsung's first Android XR camera glasses will launch in the US and South Korea in mid December

The glasses are being developed with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. They run Android XR with Google's Gemini assistant, and all of the first models are said to have front facing cameras

Samsung has not announced a price. In July, it promised a reasonable price for a product in the premium range. For comparison, Meta's Ray-Ban glasses cost $299 and the Oakley Meta Vanguard $499

Samsung describes the glasses as an extension of the smartphone experience rather than a device meant to replace the phone. 9to5Google itself calls the reported date fuzzy, since it comes from a single report, and the idea of camera free models is only speculation

Meta has had the smart glasses market largely to itself, so serious competition is welcome. Partnering with fashion brands is smart, because people will only wear glasses they like the look of. Pricing will decide how many people take a chance on them

Would you wear smart glasses with a camera? And can Samsung and Google challenge Meta in this market?
