iPhone 18 Pro rumors point to a September launch alongside Apple's first foldable, with prices possibly staying flat

With Apple's fall event expected around September 8 or 9, iPhone 18 Pro rumors have converged around a fairly consistent picture: a new A20 Pro chip built on an advanced 2 nanometer process, the same general triple lens rear camera design as the iPhone 17 Pro generation, and a launch that lands alongside Apple's first ever foldable iPhone. Current speculation puts that foldable device, sometimes referred to as the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 dollars, positioning it well above even the existing Pro Max tier.

Pricing for the standard Pro models themselves is more contested than usual this cycle. Moving from a 3 nanometer to a 2 nanometer manufacturing process is reportedly adding as much as 35 dollars per chip for Apple, a roughly 70 percent jump in per unit processor cost that would normally point toward a retail price increase. Yet two well regarded analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu, have both suggested Apple may actually hold iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max pricing flat compared to last year, absorbing some of that chip cost increase elsewhere in the supply chain rather than passing it directly on to buyers, which would keep pricing at 1,099 dollars for the Pro and 1,199 dollars for the Pro Max if that prediction holds.

Apple is also reportedly restructuring its entire release calendar this cycle. Rather than launching the full iPhone 18 lineup together in September the way Apple traditionally has, reports suggest the standard iPhone 18 and the more budget focused iPhone 18e will be pushed to a spring 2027 release instead, following the flashier Pro models by several months. That would mark a genuine departure from Apple's usual single September wave, apparently done specifically to maximize revenue and attention around the higher margin Pro branded phones before the more affordable models arrive later and pull some buyers toward cheaper options.

On the technical side, the Pro models are expected to bring new LTPO+ display technology allowing higher refresh rates with better power efficiency, a possible shift to a punch hole front camera design that moves Face ID components under the display, and continued focus on Apple Intelligence features including a more capable version of Siri that's been delayed from earlier release targets. Storage is rumored to reach up to 2TB on the Pro Max, and charging speeds are expected to hold around 40W, roughly in line with recent generations rather than a dramatic leap forward

Holding Pro and Pro Max pricing flat despite a 70 percent jump in per chip cost would be a genuinely notable move given how many other companies have passed similar component cost increases straight through to consumers this year already. Would say a lot about how much margin cushion Apple actually has to work with on its most profitable product line specifically

Splitting the iPhone 18 release into two separate waves, Pro models in September and the standard models pushed to spring, is a pretty significant change to a release rhythm Apple has followed pretty consistently for well over a decade now. Feels like a deliberate move to squeeze more attention and revenue specifically out of the higher margin Pro tier before the cheaper models eventually arrive and pull some buyers toward a lower price point instead

The punch hole front camera design finally moving Face ID components under the display would be a genuinely overdue change at this point. Competing Android flagships have offered a cleaner front screen design like that for years now, and Apple sticking with a larger visible notch or Dynamic Island area for this long always felt more like a stubborn design choice than any kind of unavoidable hardware limitation

LTPO+ for better refresh rate efficiency is a nice, meaningful quality of life improvement even if it won't generate the same kind of headline attention as a completely new form factor or a flashy new camera system. Battery life improvements from smarter display technology genuinely matter more to most people's actual daily experience with a phone than most other individual spec bumps tend to

Two respected analysts both independently predicting flat pricing despite the well documented chip cost increase is worth taking seriously as a real signal, not just optimistic fan wishful thinking circulating online. Kuo and Pu have both been reliably accurate on Apple supply chain details often enough over the years that their specific agreement here carries real weight beyond typical rumor mill noise

The foldable iPhone pricing at 2,000 to 2,500 dollars puts it in a completely different buying decision category than even the standard Pro Max, more of a genuine luxury purchase than a typical annual upgrade most people would even seriously consider. Curious how much actual volume Apple expects to move at that specific price point in year one compared to the existing Pro lineup

Curious whether Siri's delayed AI features actually ship reliably alongside this launch or slip yet again the way they reportedly already have multiple times before. Apple's own AI roadmap has had a genuinely rough couple of years specifically on the assistant side, and another delay here wouldn't exactly be shocking at this point given the track record so far
