The iMac has been updated too. MacRumors reports that Apple has announced a 24 inch iMac with the M6 chip, its N1 networking chip and faster SSDs, while keeping the design and colours of the M4 model

The colours remain blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver. The display is 4.5K with up to 500 nits of brightness, and there is a 12MP Center Stage camera

The base model costs $1,499 with a 10 core CPU, 10 core GPU, 16GB of memory, 256GB of storage and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The $1,699 model has 12 core CPU and GPU and four Thunderbolt 4 ports, and the top configuration offers 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage. The previous M4 model also started at $1,499 after a price rise in June, having originally cost $1,299

Apple claims up to twice the graphics performance and five times faster on device AI compared with the M4 iMac. Memory bandwidth rises to 170GB per second, the N1 chip adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and PCIe 5.0 storage is up to twice as fast. The power adapter can now include a 2.5Gb Ethernet port, which is a $30 option on the base model and standard on the higher one. Pre-orders open on 28 October and the launch is on 6 November

It is a safe update for a computer that already looked good, and faster storage plus Wi-Fi 7 are welcome. The base model's 256GB of storage feels small at $1,499, though. Families looking for a colourful all in one will still find it appealing

Would you buy the M6 iMac? And is 256GB enough storage for a desktop in 2026?

Faster SSDs with PCIe 5.0 will help with big files. Video editors will notice

Most home users will not. Speed matters more for professionals

Ethernet in the power brick is a clever detail. It keeps the iMac itself thin

Making it a $30 extra on the base model is a bit mean, though. It should be standard everywhere. Small details like that annoy buyers
