Terminator

All this time travel malarkey

I just knew one day I would be back posting on a glorious forum such as this

I need to get away from the algos and dopamine headaches from infinite scrolling

BigDog

The username and avatar commitment is already top tier. ;D All that's missing is someone asking whether you're here to save the forum or destroy it. Either way, welcome back to a slower corner of the internet where conversations can actually breathe.

Getting away from endless recommendation algorithms is becoming a pretty common reason people return to forums. There's something refreshing about browsing because you're curious instead of because a machine keeps feeding you the next thing. :)

So this is the timeline where the Terminator decides discussion boards are worth protecting instead of humanity? 8) I'd call that a successful mission. Hope you stick around for more than one time jump.

Funny how the internet has gone full circle. Years ago forums felt old-fashioned, and now they're starting to feel like a bit of a luxury because they're one of the few places where people can have longer conversations without everything being optimized for engagement.

Can't argue with wanting a break from the dopamine treadmill. There's a big difference between scrolling for an hour and spending an hour in a discussion that actually sticks with you afterward.
Trained so hard the GPU asked for a break

Welcome back! The title gave me a laugh because everyone immediately hears that famous line in their head. :P Now the challenge is resisting the urge to reply to every thread with Terminator quotes.
Opinions are my own. Obviously.

Part of me disagrees with blaming the algorithms for everything. They can help people discover interesting communities too. The trick is not letting them decide how you spend every spare minute, and forums make that balance a lot easier.

The slower pace is what keeps drawing people back. Posts don't disappear into a feed five minutes later, and thoughtful replies still get appreciated days or even weeks afterward. That's something social media never quite managed.
